The Misconceptions of Being Vegan

Updated: Apr 4, 2019

When you tell someone that you're a vegan, you get a mix of positive and negative reactions. There are a lot of misconceptions of being vegan and we think it's time everyone realizes the reality of it.

"BEING VEGAN IS A TREND"

These days, everything is a trend and while some do follow a healthy way of living as a trend, most do it because they want to change their ways due to morals, health issues, etc. Being vegan ISN'T a trend, it's a lifestyle. To choose veganism is to choose to be cruelty-free and to not consume animal products. Whether you do it for your health or because you want to save the planet, it's your choice. More and more families are beginning to adapt this lifestyle, bringing the same values over to the next generation.

"VEGANISM IS FOR GIRLS"

Veganism isn't gendered. A lot of people seem to think that only women follow the vegan diet and that men are the carnivores. This is false. People of all walks of life can be vegan and are vegan. Someone's gender does not determine their dietary needs and choices. If anything, men are really beginning to embrace their newfound lifestyle and are proud of it.

"VEGANS ARE HIPPIES AND TREE-HUGGERS"

Vegans are human beings that live on Earth like everyone else. They care about what's around them and they are being conscious of what is happening on our planet. Why do labels need to be thrown around?

"VEGANS DON'T GET THE NUTRIENTS THEY NEED"

Not all protein comes from animal sources and you can get a lot of your proteins and nutrients from plants! Aside from plants/vegetables, another great source of protein comes from nuts, lentils, etc. Your calcium can also come from vegetables, so vegans are definitely good in the nutrient department!
